Mobile Phones

Mobile phones can be a useful and valuable method of communication for Deaf children. Hamilton Lodge School supports the safe and considerate use of mobile phones. We do not allow the use of mobile phones during the school day. We do allow the use of mobile phones out of school and in the evenings, although not during mealtimes. We expect all pupils to use their phones in an appropriate and responsible way.

Audiology

At Hamilton Lodge School, as part of our policy of Child Centred Communication, we strive to ensure that the audiological needs of our pupils are met promptly and appropriately. We recognise that the benefits of amplification vary from pupil to pupil. This being the case, we constantly review the audiological, speech and language and communication support provided for each pupil. In order to do this we operate a multi-disciplinary approach to meeting pupils' needs, working alongside the internal and external agencies involved with individual pupils.

There is a dedicated audiology resource room where the visiting Educational Audiologist is able to assess hearing, take impressions and test and prgramme hearing aids. Each week a child's hearing aids are checked by a trained adult and any problems are followed up as soon as possible. As pupils progress through the school they are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own aids. Children with cochlear implants are managed in a similar way. Excellent links are maintained with the various implant centres to ensure that problems are dealt with as quickly as possible.
