Volunteer artists bring glass work and printing workshops to Hamilton Lodge

Local Brighton artists Omeima Mudawi-Rowlings and Miranda Ellis have been volunteering their time and their creative skills to the pupils of Hamilton Lodge through regular workshops.

As part of their innovative collaboration ‘Eye 2 Eye’, Omeima; a deaf textiles artist and Miranda; a glass artist and BSL interpreter, have been giving some lucky pupils the rare and exciting opportunity to experiment with mould-making, cast glass and textiles printing.

Omeima says: “The results have been beyond my wildest expectations, and they have been profoundly impressed by all of the pupils at Hamilton Lodge. Deaf awareness is a topic close to our hearts and one of the more important and prominent themes of their upcoming exhibition ‘Eye 2 Eye’ at ONCA Gallery, Brighton, in June.”

Due to the success and positive results, both artists are keen to continue hosting similar workshops in the future with the aim of opening them up to a broader audience.

A fundraising page is now in place accepting donations towards materials for the exhibition of final works by pupils of Hamilton Lodge; but also to generate money in the hopes that that these fantastically creative workshops may continue and allow more children to benefit in the future.
