37 supporters cycled 45 miles from Merstham to Brighton last Saturday in support of Hamilton Lodge School and College. Starting at Connevans’ headquarters, all participants were treated to pain au chocolat, bananas and coffee courtesy of the company, before making their way to Hamilton Lodge, where the bike ride finished. The deaf-inclusive event, Pedal to the Pebbles, welcomed both deaf and hearing riders, with BSL communicators along the route.
Among participants were Edward, a further education student at the school, who took part with his Dad on a specially made tandem. After the event, Edward said “I felt really tired when I was cycling. It was hard work! But I am really proud and happy now.”
The participants received a welcome reception at the finish, where the school’s summer fete was also in full swing.
Funds raised by the participants will help to support the school’s project to build a sensory room for higher need pupils, which the school aims to build during the summer holidays.
