All areas of PE are taught by a highly qualified secondary subject specialist who is also a Teacher of the Deaf, Pippa Mundy. Pippa has a range of communication skills i.e. BSL, SSE and English which are used in the delivery of lessons depending on pupil need.
All pupils have a double lesson and a single lesson every week of Physical Education from Year 7 to Year 11. The pupils take qualifications in PE during their time in school and depending upon ability and interest the pupils are either placed in a GCSE or Entry Level Certificate group in Year 10.
For pupils in Year 9 and 10 the Sports Leader Awards are also offered as an option. The coordinator is a registered assessor and the coaching element can be carried out in school PE lessons.
Lessons are conducted either on site using our gymnasium, Astroturf pitch, field and basketball court or offsite at a local sports centre for swimming and weight training.
The pupils at Hamilton Lodge have opportunities to join County teams. The subject coordinator is on the Disability Board at Sussex County Cricket Club. We also take part in events led by Brighton and Hove Albion football Club and the annual Sussex Parallel Youth Games which are held in June each year.
Competitive matches are played in school between the two “Houses” and each year a whole school Sports Day is held where parents and carers are invited to come and support.
Pupils gain an awareness of the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and some of go on to further education and take courses in Sport and Leisure and Outdoor Education in our partner colleges.
